Same here - let's hope it doesn't get delayed any further!!

Anyone interested in a set at slightly below RRP (plus courier) please contact me by direct e-mail or PM. I have a couple of expressions of interest so far and will advise everyone on my "notices" list once I have more details.

What do these look like? Would someone be kind enough to post a photo?

Have a look here for a pic of the Kakapo $5:

The proof set is still expected on the 9th (I double-checked this morning).

Wow. Nice looking coin! I wish the folks on this side of the Pacific would fashion cool looking coins like that.

I was talking to people at the Gold Coast ANDA Show on Saturday (yesterday) and it was said that NZ Post must have shopped around for the cheapest of quotes for the Mint and Proof sets as four mints were used to produce the sets. I guess RCM supplied the finished blanks for the 10c, 20c & 50c, RM the blanks for the $1 and $2, Perth Mint struck the coins and RAM packaged the coins into the sets. And someone provided the packaging on top of that. No wonder they took so long to come out.

The proof $5 came up brilliantly because it is silver but the rest of the coins I am told look shit because of the new metals - very hard to strike. And no one has the contract for 2010 because NZ Post is looking for the cheapest quote again. What a mess.

Not surprising. I still have the impression that NZ post have no understanding or love for the products they produce. I recommended they become a member of this forum so they can atually gain a feel for the product,....................Haven't seen them here yet

Stocks finally received today. It looks like the dollars have virtually no rim on the obverse, so that will be another variety for collectors to look out for!

:x Why does it not surprise me? Guessing that 2010 will be a shambles too How long before they use Pobjoy or even the New Zealand Mint?

I received my set today. I have other proof sets but as they are all stored in NZ I have not looked at them much. Perhaps My lack of familiarity with NZ proof sets may be telling here. This 2009 proof set is a shocker. As Martin pointed out on the $1.00 the rim is missing on the obverse ( and there isn't much of a Rim on the reverse). Then I looked at the 10 cent The queens bust is nearly a silhouette with very little evidence ( there is some there) of her hair. I thought that perhaps the frosted finish was at fault. I pulled out some circulated 10 cent pieces (small sized) they have much higher relief than the 2009 proof example.

I am sure that NZ post has been trying to keep the proof set prices down............. there has not been much movement in the price since 2003, given the increase in metal prices Perhaps NZ proof sets should be priced around the NZ$180.00 mark, at least then we might get the quality we expect in proof coins. I am off to write to Ivor masters

The fact that it's so terrible may almost turn it into a future collectible! Scary when you think these were the "best" that they sent out to market. Makes you wonder what the "worst" were like, and also whether more than the stated 1500 were produced so they could throw out/return the worst and keep the "actual" mintage at 1500 as a result.

Received mine today as well. As well as what Austrokiwi says about the $1, my $2 is badly scratched and the 20c edging looks as though they've had a few goes at it.

And they're still looking for the cheapest bideer for 2010... I would equally happy pay more for a quality set. Be careful what you ask for when writing to IVor Masters. They will charge more next year and still sell to the cheapest bidder...

Well it took a few days but I received a reply from Ivor Masters. It seems the alloy of the new coins is the problem( as others had already noted). The reserve bank has given NZ post permission to produce the sets in a different alloy so the quality problem should be a thing of the past. I wonder if this opens the proof sets up to gold and silver coins ( other than the silver $5.00)?

A gold and silver (& copper?) set would be pretty cool... wait wait... gold, silver, & dark rose gold...

Then I can glue them to my teeth. The idea sounded better in my head.
